The Aeropress

The Aeropress is a great little immersion brewer and a really good option for many people, except for one thing. The only real drawback to the AP is that it is fairly small, so it only really operates for one cup of coffee. There is an option to brew with a small ratio (like 6:1) and then dilute with water (your results may vary), but extraction is better with the full amount of water, and you are limited to about 8 ounces/240ml of output. Like all immersion methods, I tend to use a smaller ratio in general than I do for drip/percolation methods.

On the plus side, the Aeropress is light, relatively cheap ($30), durable, can be used with paper or metal filters, and is very easy to use and clean up. This is my go to brewer when traveling because it is small and portable, and there are very good hand-grinders that fit inside it. There are tons of Aeropress recipes (There is a long-running annual World Championship for brewing!) to be found online, so there is lots to experiment with.
